Jane Kaneko

Jane has worked at the Institute of East Asian Studies since its inception in 1978. Before that time she worked at the Center for Chinese Studies, for Health Sciences, and at University Extension. In her twenty-six years at IEAS, Jane has been responsible for nearly all the business functions of the Institute, including fiscal management, personnel, and payroll. She has seen the Institute through times of enormous growth and change. She undertook, for instance, the task of bringing the Institute in line with the technological advances at Berkeley of recent years, including new online financial and human resources systems. She worked tirelessly with hundreds of faculty and students over the years, for whom she was always a knowledgeable and trusted resource. Jane was called “irreplaceable” at the time of her retirement.
